THE SURGERY

My colleague, Dr. Karl Pötscher, has offered me to use his rooms during his out-of-hours time. I provide psychotherapeutic support to people experiencing psychological and psychosomatic difficulties.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Psychotherapy

  • for individuals, couples, families and groups

  • for adolescents (from age 12 and up) and adults

  • Method of psychotherapy: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Support in coping with

    • Anxieties and panic attacks

    • Somatoform disorders, typically presenting with persistent physical symptoms of any part or organ-system of the body (e.g., heart, guts, urogenital tract, muscles, or skin), often medically unexplained, but causing psychological distress - these symptoms may include chronic pain, tinnitus, or sleep disorders

    • Burnout and other job-related psychological difficulties

    • Depressive disorders, especially chronic depression (CBASP concept)

    • Dissociative symptoms

    • Eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorder, including problems with body-image and problems with excessive exercise or an urge to move

    • Nicotine dependence (smoking cessation)

    • Personality disorders, especially if characterized by problems in coping with emotions and states of aversive tension, difficulties with impulse control, problems in interpersonal relationships, problems with self-image and own identity

    • Post-traumatic stress disorder and trauma

    • Self-harming behaviour

    • Social Phobias

    • Grief, mourning or bereavement

    • Obsessive-compulsive disorders with obsessional thoughts and/or compulsive acts

  • I offer exposure treatments and home-visits. The latter especially if coming to the surgery poses too much of a hurdle, e.g., for people with special needs, or with severe anxiety or obsessive-compulsive disorders.

  • Languages: English and German.
